Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Announces Cash Reward For Javelin Star Kishore Jena

Kishore Jena, hailing from Odisha, made history by becoming the first athlete from the state to reach the finals of the esteemed World Athletics Championship.

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik made a significant announcement on Monday, offering a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh to Kishore Jena, the exceptional javelin thrower. Jena, hailing from Odisha, has made history by becoming the first athlete from the state to reach the finals of the esteemed World Athletics Championship.

In a commendable performance on Sunday, he secured the fifth position in the javelin throw final held in Budapest. Jena's achievement is particularly notable as he marked a personal best by covering a distance of 84.77 metres with his throw.

Chief Minister Patnaik expressed his admiration for Kishore Jena's extraordinary journey and outstanding display at the World Athletics Championships. The highlight from the Men's Javelin Throw final was Neeraj Chopra's best throw of 88.17 metres which helped India bag its first-ever gold medal in the history of the World Athletics Championships. Chopra, after the disappointment of a foul first attempt, turned back and roared in the second attempt in his characteristic style after letting go of the javelin happy with his attempt. As it turned out, the javelin flew a distance that was enough to put him in pole position which he maintained till the end of the final.
