The appointment of Hardik Pandya as the new captain left the Indian cricket landscape surprised. In tribute to Rohit Sharma, the longest-serving captain of Mumbai Indians, the franchise posted a heartfelt message, acknowledging his tenure and leadership. "Ro, In 2013 you took over as captain of MI. You asked us to Believe. In victories & defeats, you asked us to Smile. 10 years & 6 trophies later, here we are. Our forever captain, your legacy will be etched in Blue and Gold. Thank you, Captain RO," Mumbai Indians said in a post.

Players like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, associated with the Mumbai Indians, shared enigmatic posts on social media following the change in captaincy. Former Indian cricket player Gavaskar, on the other hand, expressed on Star Sports that Rohit hasn't been delivering the same level of batting performance in the IPL as he did previously. He also highlighted that Mumbai Indians haven't achieved the desired results in the recent seasons.

In November, Pandya moved from Gujarat Titans (GT) back to his former team, the Mumbai Indians (MI), following a trade between the franchises. His impactful two-year tenure with GT saw him leading their charge brilliantly. In GT's inaugural season in 2022, Hardik orchestrated a remarkable start, securing the coveted trophy. Their second season saw them as runners-up, facing a last-ball defeat in a thrilling final earlier this year.
