Virat Kohli Back As RCB Captain From IPL 2025?
IPL 2025: Will Virat Kohli be back at the helm of affairs at RCB?
While there is no official confirmation, it seems like the stage is set for Virat Kohli to return as the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). While the news was initially fuelled by social media posts, a Times of India (TOI) report has claimed that Kohli will indeed be back at the helm of affairs of the only franchise that he has represented in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The said media report claims that Kohli, who is not new to leadership role having previously had a long stint as a captain of RCB as well as Team India, has already had discussions with the management and wants to step up again for the team where there coul be a case of a leadership vaccum.
Although it has been Faf du Plessis who has led the team in the past few seasons ever since Kohli decided that he will not be leading the team anymore, age is not on the side of the 40-year-old anymore which is why the think tank, it is being learnt, has turned to Kohli yet again.
RCB Yet To Win An IPL Trophy
As far as RCB are concerned, despite participating in every season of the competition since its inaugural edition in 2008, the franchise has not yet won an IPL trophy. With the mega-auction expected in the coming month and the IPL retention deadline approaching, the franchise has seemingly finalised its leadership and will now look to build a team that could help them reach their maiden silverware when the bidding war happens.
Kohli has previously led the team from 2013 to 2021 and helped the side reach the Playoffs on four occasions. They reached the finals in IPL 2016 and were 114/0 in the 11th over, chasing 209 to win but fell short of the target by 8 runs.
