IPL 2024 To Allow Two Bouncers Per Over, Impact Player Rule Remains In Place
IPL 2024: In a bid to facilitate even contest between bat and ball, the bowlers will now be allowed to bowl two bouncers per over.
In what comes as a move to try and facilitate an even contest between the bat and the ball, the Indian Premier League (IPL) has announced that it will allow bowlers the liberty to bowl two bouncers in an over. The change in the IPL Playing Conditions comes after the two-bouncer per over rule was trialled during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-24 which happens to be India's domestic T20 tournament.
It is pertinent to note that while the bowlers have been bowling just one bouncer per over (above shoulder height) so far with any other ball that is deemed above the shoulder height judged a no-ball, the bowler can now bowl two balls that can bounce above shoulder of a batter but is within the reach of the batter as well so that it isn't called a wide.
Impact Player Rule Remains In Place In IPL 2024
The Impact Player Rule which was introduced in IPL 2023 will remain in place in IPL 2024, even though there have been voices against it from the members of the cricketing community. Former India batter turned coach Wasim Jaffer demanded that the impact player needs to be withdrawn.

"I think IPL needs to take away the impact player rule, as it's not encouraging the all rounders to bowl much and lack of ARs and batters not bowling is a major area of concern for Indian cricket," Jaffer had posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Much like the two no-ball per over rule, the Impact Player ruled had also been tried and tested in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy before it was implemented in the IPL. Earlier, it had been in practice in the Big Bash League (BBL).
