IPL 2023: Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir Fined 100% Match Fee After Verbal Spat During LSG vs RCB

IPL 2023: The altercation between former national teammates Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli happened moments after the two shook hands post the match.

Former Delhi and Team India teammates Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli found themselves in the oppositie camps during the Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Stadium on Monday. Both the individuals, who have a history of these on-field bitter face-offs, added yet another chapter to it as they were adjudged to have breached the IPL Code of Conduct during the fixture.

“Mr Gambhir and Mr Kohli admitted to the Level 2 offence under Article 2.21 of the IPL Code of Conduct,” a release from IPL confirmed with both the parties involved fined 100 per cent of their match fees. In addition, LSG pacer Naveen-ul-Haq has also been fined 50 per cent of his match fees.

Both the stars of the cricket world did have a heated exchange even when Gambhir was the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). This time around though both of them had to be separated by senior spinner Amit Mishra, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis and LSG's assisstant coach Vijay Dahiya.

RCB ended up winning this match by 18 runs. From what is known so far, it seems like that Kohli's interaction with LSG's Kyle Mayers after a bit of an exchange with Naveen could have been the trigger for Gambhir-Kohli face-off in which the the ex-cricketer looked the more animated of the two.

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth," Kohli posted on his Instagram story, probably referring to the entire turn of events and how the narrative is being portrayed by the media.

The incident actually happend moments after Kohli and Gambhir had shaken hands after the match. In the revese fixture between the two teams, LSG had emerged victorious and on that occasion Gambhir had gestured towards the stands asking Bangalore fans to shut up.
