India vs Zimbabwe 2016: KL Rahul creates history on ODI debut

Harare: Three players – Yuzvendra Chahal, Karun Nair and KL Rahul -- made ODI debuts for India during the 1st ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. Chahal impressed with his control on the ball as the leg-spinner took 1 for 27 in his debut match. Nair, however, faced disappointment as he got out early scoring just 7 runs after opening the innings for India. But the other opener, Rahul, captured the opportunity with both hands. Rahul opened the innings with Nair – first pair since 1976 to open the innings on debut. After starting his innings cautiously on a difficult pitch, Rahul batted through the innings to hit an unbeaten 100 in 115 balls and guided India to a 9-wicket win over Zimbabwe. With that century, Rahul became the first Indian opener ever to score a century on ODI debut. Before Rahul, his Karnataka statemate Robin Uthappa, held the record of highest ODI score on debut. Uthappa made his debut against England in 2006 and scored 86 runs in the match.
