'Don't Know What He's Talking About': BCCI Official On Virat Kohli's 'Lack Of Support Remark' - Report

Virat Kohli said only MS Dhoni reached out to him personally when he was going through a lean patch and that he lacked support from all quarters.

New Delhi: Former India captain Virat Kohli has finally returned to form after a long lean patch in international cricket. He played a solid 44-ball 60-run knock against Pakistan on Sunday. After Pakistan's win over India in their Super-4 match on Sunday, Virat dropped a bombshell during the post-match press conference. Virat was asked many questions, in response to one of which he referred to former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Virat talked about Dhoni, saying that it was only the CSK skipper who reached out to him personally when he was going through a lean patch and that he lacked support from all quarters. Virat revealed only Dhoni texted him when he stepped down as India's Test captain.

As per a report in InsideSport, a BCCI official is not happy with Virat's lack of support remark.

“Virat has had backing of everyone. From his teammates to everyone at the BCCI. To say that he did not get the support, is not true. He was granted break to rejuvenate, he got frequent rest. Even everyone at BCCI wished him on social media when he stepped down from Test captaincy. So, I don’t know what he is talking about,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

Before the Asia Cup, Virat was facing heat for his poor runs across formats. So much so that even questions were being raised over his spot in the national squad for T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, later this year. Asia Cup 2022 was Kohli's last shot at redemption and he successfully made a strong comeback.

Here's What Virat Kohli said...

"When I left Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person, with whom I played in the past. It was MS Dhoni. A lot of people have my number, a lot of people give me suggestions, a lot of people talk about my game on TV. But out of those people who had my number, I didn't get a message from anyone else barring Dhoni.

"You have respect, you have a genuine connection with a few people and it looks like that (Dhoni messaging him). It's a two-way security, I don't want anything from them nor do they want anything from me. I don't feel insecure with him, nor does he feel insecure with me," said Kohli in the press conference.
