New Delhi: New Zealand opener Martin Guptill on Friday surpassed Virat Kohli to become the highest run-scorer in T20 Internationals. Guptill, who holds the record of hitting the maximum sixes in T20Is, has now also become the highest run-scorer in this format.

Guptill attained the big T20 feat on Friday in the second match of the three-match T20 series between India and New Zealand being played at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. Guptill scored 31 runs off 15 balls with the help of three fours and two sixes and now has 3248 runs in 111 T20 Internationals with two centuries and 19 half-centuries to his name.

Guptill needed 11 runs to break Kohli's record and the Kiwi batter achieved the feat by hitting three boundaries in the very first over of Bhuvneshwar Kumar's over. He had scored 70 runs off just 42 balls in the first T20I against India.

India's former T20 skipper Virat Kohli has scored 3227 runs in 87 innings of 95 T20Is at an average of 52.04. Rohit Sharma is at number three in this list with 3086 runs in 117 T20I matches. Virat Kohli, like many other regular senior players, has been rested for Ind vs NZ T20 series keeping in mind the workload management.

India's newly-appointed T20 skipper Rohit Sharma had scored 48 runs off 36 balls in the first T20 match. Coming back to Guptill, his recent form with the bat has been remarkably good as the Kiwi legend scored 208 runs off 7 matches in the T20 World Cup 2021. Team India is currently leading the Ind vs NZ three-match T20I series 1-0.
