A delivery off part-time spinner Marnus Labuschangne was played swiftly by Rohit as it went straight to Australian vice-captain Steve Smith in the outfield. After completing a single, Jadeja wanted to rotate the strike once again to make it two but Rohit, who was aware of Smith's lethal throwing skills, denied a second run to his batting partner. On the Nagpur pitch where batters of both Australia and India struggled to score runs, captain Rohit Sharma notched up one his most impressive Test hundreds under pressure on Day 2 of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The senior opener completed this century by hammering Todd Murphy for a blistering four. By the virtue of this ton, Rohit became the first player from India to score a century in all three formats as captain.
Before Rohit, Tillakaratne Dilshan of Sri Lanka, Faf du Plessis of South Africa and Babar Azam of Pakistan have attained this feat. Rohit, Friday, scored the 9th century of his Test career, his 43rd century in International cricket.
