New Delhi: The Indian cricket team has suffered a major blow ahead of the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Star all-rounder Washington Sundar, who was set to make a comeback after being out of the team due to injury, has now reportedly tested positive for Coronavirus. Dark clouds now loom over his participation in the Ind vs SA ODI series and BCCI might soon announce his replacement. India is scheduled to play first ODI against South Africa on January 19.
“He tested positive some days back and it has been decided that he will not travel with the squad,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
The Indian ODI squad will fly to South Africa on January 12. Sundar's participation in the upcoming Ind vs SA ODI series is in doubt as the all-rounder unfortunately contracted the dreaded infection.
“I have nothing to comment, I will come back to you soon,” Washington Sundar had told Cricbuzz on Tuesday, January 11, when asked whether he has tested Covid-19 positive or not.
