Ind Vs Eng: Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav Likely To Miss First Two Tests Against England; Here's Why
IND Vs ENG: Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are expected to be a part of India's Playing XI on its tour of England. However, quarantine rules remain a big obstacle for these two players.
IND Vs ENG: It seems like team India's troubles on the England tour would not be ending too soon. Three Indian players have been ruled out of the five-Test series against England due to injuries. BCCI has decided to send Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav to England as replacements. But in the first two Tests, it is not possible for Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav to join the team.
Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are currently on a tour of Sri Lanka. The last match of the limited overs series between India and Sri Lanka will be played on July 29. It is only after this match that Suryakumar and Prithvi Shaw can leave for England.
But UK has enforced strict protocols for international arrivals as a part of its preventive measures against COVID-19. Suryakumar and Prithvi Shaw will have to remain in quarantine after reaching UK. Since a player of the Indian team has also been found to be COVID positive in Sri Lanka, both these players may have to remain quarantined for about a week in Sri Lanka before leaving for England.
Quarantine period proves to be a hurdle
If this happens, it won't be possible for Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw to join the team for the first two Tests. The second Test between India and England will start from August 14. The players will not have completed their quarantine period till then.
Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav will also need time to do some net practice after the quarantine period. If both the players are isolated even in Sri Lanka, their chances of playing in the third Test will be very less.
The team management has decided to add Abhimanyu Easwaran with the team as a replacement for Shubman Gill. Apart from this, Ajinkya Rahane has also started net practice and the team management expects him to play in the first Test.
