ICC Women's WC: Amelia Kerr Star As New Zealand Beat India By 62 Runs

New Zealand's win over India is their second win in three matches. On the other hand, this is India's first defeat in two matches.

New Delhi: India women's cricket team, after an emphatic win over Pakistan in their first match of the ICC Women's World Cup 2022, faced a crushing defeat in their second match. In the eighth league match of the Women's World Cup 2022, New Zealand beat India by 62 runs to attain their second win in the tournament.

New Zealand's win over India is their second win in three matches. On the other hand, this is India's first defeat in two matches. Till now India's net run rate was over 2, but after losing to NZ, their net run rate deteriorated.

The World Cup match between India and New Zealand was played at Seddon Park, Hamilton. Indian captain Mithali Raj decided to bowl after winning the toss. NZ was off to a good start, courtesy of steady knocks from captain Sophie Devine (35) and Emilia Kerr (50). After Devine's departure, Satterthwaite stitched a solid stand with Kerr and scored 75 runs individually to help New Zealand score 260/9 in the stipulated 50 overs.

Pooja Vastrakar was the pick of Indian bowlers as she bagged 4 wickets, Rajeshwari Gaikwad picked 2 wickets and Jhulan Goswami and Deepti Sharma got one wicket apiece.

Chasing the target of 261 runs, Team India did not get a good start. Mithali Raj, Yastika Bhatia, and Harmanpreet Kaur played some solid knocks but they weren't enough for the win. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 71 runs in 63 balls, while captain Mithali Raj was dismissed for 31 runs. Lee Tahuhu and Emilia Kerr took 3 wickets each for New Zealand. In the end, India was bundled out for 198 runs in 46.4 overs.
