ICC blasts Windies 'disrespectful' behaviour in World T20
Dubai: West Indies players have been reprimanded by the International Cricket Council for their 'inappropriate' and 'disrespectful' behaviour during their victorious World Twenty20 campaign earlier this month.
The ICC Board held its second meeting of the year at the ICC Headquarters in Dubai on Sunday.
"The Board considered the behavior of some of the West Indies players in the immediate aftermath of the final, and unanimously agreed that certain comments and actions were inappropriate, disrespectful and brought the event into disrepute," said the ICC in a media release.
"The Board acknowledged an apology by the WICB but was disappointed to note that such behavior had detracted from the success of what was otherwise a magnificent tournament and final," said the cricket's governing body.
West Indies T20 captain Darren Sammy had launched a passionate outburst against the board after guiding the Caribbean team to their second World T20 title. The Caribbean players were locked in a pay cut dispute with their country's cricket board, which threw their participation in jeopardy prior to the World T20.
Meanwhile ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar observed that the sport of cricket was proud of its unique spirit and this involves being gracious in victory as well as defeat.
