Euro 2024: Germany have come out advantageous from the draw between Switzerland and Scotland, as the hosts, with that draw, are now ensured of a top-place finish in the group, unless something miraculous happens in the fixture of Germany Vs Switzerland. Germany secured their berth into the Round of 16 with the 2-0 defeat of Hungary in the fist match of Day 6, but now need to avoid a defeat against the Swiss to qualify as the top-seeded side into the knockout stages.

This means that the Julian Nagelsmann-coached side will avoid the hot-favourites England in the match-up. As per the pre-fixed knockout-seeding, the table-topper of Group A will be facing the side finishing second in the Group C, a group that consists of the likes of England, Denmark, Slovenia, and Serbia.

The last time England met Germany was in Euro 2020 Round of 16 tie, where 'The Three Lions' eliminated 'Die Mannschaft' by beating them 2-0, and with England looking way more better than last time around, Germany will be among many sides that will be praying to avoid the Gareth Southgate's men in the knockout stages.

 

Germany Captain Thrilled After Securing Round Of 16 Berth

Germany skipper Ilkay Gundogan was instrumental in his side's 2-0 win over Hungary and was thrilled by the fact that the hosts have secured a berth into the knockout stages.

"It feels like we're getting better and better. But while things are getting better, you always have to overcome difficulties, and this game today showed that. That's just how a tournament is: you have to survive dangerous situations and then you have to strike when the chance arises. With regard to my own performance, I always want to remain patient and do my job as well as possible," said Gundogan in the post-match interview.
