Zimbabwe fast bowler Kyle Jarvis was taken to hospital with a suspected broken thumb after he fell awkwardly in an attempt to take a difficult catch during the 1st match of the T20I tri-nation tournament against Pakistan, which also involves Australia.

Zimbabwe are already forced to leave out a number of its top players including the likes of Brendan Taylor, Graeme Cremer, Sean Williams because of a tussle between them and board for non-payment of salaries and in this scenario the injury to Jarvis is a major setback for the hosts.

Jarvis hurt his right hand in an attempt to catch a Fakhar Zaman lofted shot in between the long-on and mid-wicket area in the 14th over of the Pakistan innings. He could not hold on to the catch and immediately grimaced in pain while signalling for help.

Jarvis will undergo X-Rays to determine to extent of his injury. His absence in the field cost Zimbabwe 61 runs in the last five overs as he had bowled only 2 overs and was one of Zimbabwe’s most trusted death bowlers.

Jarvis did not turn up to bat and Zimbabwe folded for 108 in response to Pakistan’s 182 for 4 to end up losing the match by a big margin of 74 runs.
