Will You Marry Me: South African Fan Proposes To Kaviya Maran During SA20 Match

Kaviya is the daughter of the founder of the Sun Network, Kalanithi Maran and the owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

The inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League-modelled SA 20 is currently underway in South Africa. While the competition has been the centre of attraction in India owing to the IPL franchises owing all the participating teams in the Proteas league, an incident which unfolded during a match of the brand new competition has now gone viral on social media.

Even though the the Sunrisers Eastern Cape became the first team in the tournament's young history to achieve a hat-trick of wins as they defeated rivals Paarl Royals at the Boland Park on Thursday, it was the owner of the winning team Kaviya Maran who became a talking point after a South African fan proposed her by showing a placard on Live TV.

The message in placard simply read, “KAVYA MARAN, WILL YOU MARRY ME?❤️ ”

Soon the video of the incident surfaced on social media and has now gone viral.

For the unversed, Kaviya, is the daughter of the founder of the Sun Network, Kalanithi Maran. The young businesswoman is seen at the IPL auctions for the franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad also cheering for the Orange Army during their matches. The Hyderabad based franchise is also owned by the Sun Network.

Sunrisers Eastern Cape climb to second place

Meanwhile, a 5-wicket victory on Thursday has ensured that the Sunrisers Eastern Cape climb to the second place in the SA20 points table. Although it is usually the Royals who are a strong spin attack on this occasion it was the Sunrisers who spun a web around the home batters.

Aiden Markram (2/21), Roelof van der Merwe (2/21) and Brydon Carse (2/29) picked 6/71 in between their 12 overs to restrict the Royals to 127/7. In response, the Sunrisers did lose their way in the middle when Lungi Ngidi picked 2 wickets in 2 balls but Jordan Hermann's 43 along with healthy contributions from Rossington (20), captain Aiden Markram (23), Tristan Stubbs (18*) and Marco Jansen (22*) turned out to be enough to see them over the line with 10 balls to spare.
