BAN vs SA: Jaker Ali Tests South Africa's Patience With Fifty On Test Debut
Jaker Ali played a gritty knock in Bangladesh's second innings in their first Test match against South Africa at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
BAN vs SA 1st Test: Bangladesh are taking on South Africa in the 1st Test match of the two-match series at the Sher-E Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. While the Bangla Tigers won the toss and elected to bat first, they were bowled out for 106 in the first innings. In response, the Proteas 308 made in their first innings.
In the second innings, Bangladesh were reeling at 112/6 at one stage and were in danger of a defeat by an innings margin. However, that was not to be as Test debutant Jaker Ali frustrated the tourists with his gritty knock, stitching an invaluable partnership with Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

At the time of writing this news, the wicketkeeper-batter was dismised for 58 with Miraz remaing unbeaten on 72. The two of them have taken Bangladesh ahead of South Africa with their 138-run stand as they now look to give their bowlers a substantial total to try and defend in the fourth innings of the Test.

Jaker Ali might be making his Test debut has been around the Bangladesh cricket circuit for quite some time. The 1998-born cricketer has played 49 first-class matches and has scored 2862 runs at an average of 41.47. He has smashed 4 hundreds at the first-class level. In addition, he is not new to international cricket, having already played 19 T20Is for Bangladesh. Overall, the right-handed batter who keeps wickets has played 82 T20s and 93 List A matches, scoring 1040 and 2181 runs in them respectively.

Jaker Ali features in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He has represented franchises like the Comilla Victorians, Dhaka Dominators, Khulna Tigers and Gazi Group Cricketers. In the 2023-24 BPL season, Jaker scored 199 runs from 10 innings at an impresive strike rate of 141.13.
