WATCH: Rohit hands over the trophy to debutant Khaleel after Asia Cup victory
After the men-in-blue became the Asian champions, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t forget to follow the age-old tradition which was brought into existence by MS Dhoni
Team India lifted the Asia Cup trophy for the record seventh time on Saturday after defeating Bangladesh by 3 wickets in a nail-biting affair in Dubai. The Tigers tried their best to toughen India’s 233-run chase but it was hamstrung Kedar Jadhav who showed terrific courage to ensure team’s victory.
It happened for the first time that India won a major 50-over international tournament without their regular skipper. Rohit Sharma’s commendable leadership didn’t let the team miss Virat Kohli, who was rested for the entire competition. As a result, India won 5 out of 6 matches to retain their Asian supremacy.
After the men-in-blue became the Asian champions, stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma didn’t forget to follow the age-old tradition which was brought into existence by MS Dhoni. During the celebrations, Rohit handed over the golden trophy to youngster Khaleel Ahmed and moved to the corner.
Khaleel, who played the debut ODI tournament of his career, lifted the trophy up in the air and took the centre frame of the team photograph.
