WATCH: Netherlands Cricketer Vikramjit Singh Explains Why He Chose Number 7 For His Jersey

Vikramjit Singh has scored 273 runs for his team in six matches in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023, including one half-century and a century.

Young Netherlands batter Vikramjit Singh explained the reason behind choosing the number 7 for his jersey. Initially, he preferred the number 10 but it was already taken by one of his team mate- Timm van der Gugten so he chose his second favourite number that is 7.

The player further stated that he is frequently asked if the number was influenced by famous cricketer MS Dhoni. He stated that the former India captain had a lot of support on social media and eventually told the narrative of having the iconic number seven behind his back.

“I used to get a lot of comments on that, that I have got Dhoni's number. A lot of people on social media, they love the number 7 on the back obviously a lot of MS Dhoni fans around there. 10 was my favourite number, and unfortunately, Timm van der Gugten, who also plays for the Netherlands, has got the number. So my next favourite number was 7, so that's the story behind it,” Vikramjit said while talking to ICC.

In a video posted by ICC, he mentions about the kind of love the legendary cricketer MS Dhoni gets from his fans on and off field.

Netherlands vs Scotland Knockout Match: With qualification round the corner for the ODI world cup the two teams are fighting for the one remaining spot on July 6.

The victor of the final Super Six match will determine which side travels to India for the ODI World Cup. Notably, the hosts, Zimbabwe, have already been eliminated from the competition, along with West Indies and Oman. Sri Lanka, on the other side, has played some magnificent cricket throughout the competition, and the Lankan Lions have earned their place in India.

Scotland has a healthy net run rate. This means that they might still qualify for the World Cup despite a loss with close margin against the Dutch. Netherlands must win large to secure the two points and pass Scotland on net run rate in order to confirm their spot in the ODI World Cup.
