VVS Laxman could be the coach of the Indian squad when the team play five T20Is against Australia after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023.
VVS Laxman, former Team India batter and National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief, might could be roped in as the coach of the Indian cricket team for the five-match T20I series against Australia. The bilateral series will be played a week after the ODI World Cup 2023 ends with the final scheduled to happen at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19.
It is pertinent to note that the current head coach of the Indian cricket team Rahul Dravid's contract will also expire at the end of the marquee event and it is still not clear whether the the board will rquest Dravid to reapply for the position and if they do, will the ex-India captain also be interested in applying for the head coach position for a second stint.
If a report carried by news agency PTI is to be believed, Dravid will return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) setup after the conclusion of his tenure as the head coach of the national cricket team. Dravid has captained an IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the past while also serving in the coaching setup of the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Moreover, it is likely that the entire squad featuring in the ODI World Cup with the exception of Suryakumar Yadav be handed a break after the quadrennial event in which the team is set to travel over 10,000 kms across the nation.
"VVS Laxman has always been in charge when Rahul has taken a break and the same thing is likely to continue for the series just after the World Cup," a BCCI source was quoted as saying by PTI.
Meanwhile, the same report suggests that Laxman could also be a potential candidate who could replace Dravid as the head coach, if he chooses to apply once the applications are open for the position.
