Virat Kohli Registers 'Unwanted Record' In IND vs USA T20 World Cup 2024 Match
The decision by Team India management to promote Virat Kohli as an opener alongside Rohit Sharma has yet to show positive outcomes.
Virat Kohli enjoyed tremendous success as an opening batsman in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), finishing as the highest run-scorer with over 700 runs. Despite this stellar form, Kohli has been unable to replicate his IPL performance in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Elevated to bat as an opener alongside Rohit Sharma in ICC T20 World Cup 2024, this strategic move has not yielded positive results. Kohli has struggled significantly as an opener, failing to reach double figures in any of the three matches played so far for the Indian cricket team in T20 World Cup.

Virat Kohli registers unwanted record during IND vs USA T20 World Cup match
In IND vs USA T20 World Cup 2024 match on Wednesday (June 12), Virat Kohli attempted a drive against a full-length delivery from Saurabh Netravalkar. The ball edged off his bat and Kohli was caught behind the wicket by Andrei Goss.
This dismissal marked Kohli's first golden duck in a T20 World Cup match. His scores in this tournament so far have been 1 against Ireland, 4 against Pakistan, and 0 against USA. In his last four T20I innings, the star India batter has failed to reach a double-digit score.
This marked the sixth occasion in his T20 International career that Kohli was dismissed for a duck.
India's 7-wicket win over USA helped them become the 3rd team to make it to ICC T20 World Cup Super 8 stage. So far, four teams -- India, West Indies, South Africa and Australia -- have made it to Super 8 stage.
India's final group stage match will be against Ireland in Florida on Saturday, June 15. This will be Virat's final chance to bounce back to form ahead of the crucial Super 8 stage.
