IND vs SA 2nd Test: India's Test skipper Virat Kohli is not part of the playing XI squaring up against South Africa in the second test match at Johannesburg.
New Delhi: India's Test skipper Virat Kohli is not part of the playing XI squaring up against South Africa in the second test match at Johannesburg.
At the time of the toss, KL Rahul walked in as stand-in captain for India and informed Kohli will miss out on the second test match due to a back spasm. "Physios are working on him and hopefully, he'll recover for the next Test," KL Rahul said on Kohli's health update.
"We have had a few good wins here and hopefully, we'll look to continue that. Hanuma Vihari comes in place of Virat. Just the one change. It was a good Test at Centurion overall. We really performed well as a team and are really excited about this match," he said.
"It is every Indian player's dream to captain his country. Really honoured and looking forward to this challenge," KL Rahul said on leading the Indian Test team.
India (Playing XI): KL Rahul (Captain), Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
In the three-match Test series against the Proteas, Virat Kohli has a chance to equal the record to be the third-best Test team captain in terms of win. South Africa's Graeme Smith leads the pack with 53 Test match wins under his belt followed by Rick Ponting with 48 wins. Another Australian, Steve Waugh is at third place in the standing with 41 wins. Indian skipper Kohli has 40 Test match wins so far and one more would have pushed him equal to Steve Waugh's captaincy record.
