Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019: Vijay Shankar's 91 Powers Tamil Nadu To 7 Wickets Win Over Bihar

Vijay Shankar, who missed the South Africa series, did his part with the ball by picking up a single wicket from six overs, giving away just 17 runs

India out-of-favour batsman Vijay Shankar made a brilliant comeback from injury with a remarkable 91-run knock to help Tamil Nadu beat Bihar by seven wickets in Group C match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Sunday. At one point, Tamil Nadu were left to dry at 75 for 3, but a fine partnership between Baba Aparajith and Vijay Shankar revived Tamil Nadu. While Shankar smashed some fiery shots across the ground, Aparajith rotated the strike and gathered ones and twos to build a much-need solid partnership. For Bihar, skipper Babul Kumar (110) scored a heroic ton to help his squad recover from a horrible start as the managed to put 217 runs on board to defend after opting to bat. Skipper Kumar shared good partnerships with Rahmat Ullah (38) and Keshav Kumar (35) for third and fourth wicket respectively. Babul Kumar's dismissal saw Bihar collapse as the tail-enders failed to end their innings on a high scoring note. Vijay Shankar, who missed the South Africa series, did his part with the ball by picking up a single wicket from six overs, giving away just 17 runs. Brief scores: Bihar 217 for 7 in 50 overs (Babul Kumar 110, Rahmat Ullah 38, Keshav Kumar 35, M Mohammed 3/33) lost to Tamil Nadu 218 for 3 in 46.5 overs (Vijay Shankar 91 not out, B Aparajith 52 not out). TN: 4 points, Bihar: 0.
