Travis Head fined 50% of his match fees before first India-Australia Test

Travis Head was fined 50% of his match fees for showing dissent during a Sheffield Sheild match against Tasmania.

Travis Head will take the field against India for the first Test match at Adelaide with a sour taste in his mouth. The Australian middle-order batsman was on Tuesday fined half of his match fee for showing dissent during the Sheffield Sheild match against Tasmania.

The South Australia captain’s reaction after he was given out for 49 off Riley Meredeth’s bowling, did not go down well with the match referee. His was found guilty of breaching Cricket Australia’s Code of Conduct and was therefore punished.

To be fair to Head, his reaction was nowhere near to an outrageous one – He had only put his hands on his knees and walked off shaking his head viciously - but the fact that it was his second offence in a span of 18 months, was the main reason behind him being stripped of 50% of his match fees.

The 24-year-old did not dispute the charge and accepted the sanction.

The left-hander though, was no in mood to let this act as a distraction before the first Test against India.

"I wanted to play Test cricket and I've had that opportunity, and now I want to have that experience playing in Australia," head was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia.

"I'm pretty lucky that the first one is in Adelaide. There's nothing better than playing in your hometown, with home support.”

The first India vs Australia Test begins from December 6.
