T20 World Cup: Kane Williamson Expects NZ Vs PAK To Be Played 'In Right Spirit' Despite Series Pullout

Ramiz Raja, the new PCB chief had said, "We had one team in our target, our neighbours (India), now add two more teams, New Zealand and England," in a press conference in September 2021.

T20 World Cup: Kane Williamson is hoping that New Zealand vs Pakistan game will be played 'in the right spirit' and that there would not be any grudges. His statements come as an aftermath of New Zealand pulling out of the series in Pakistan citing 'security concerns' in September.

The New Zealand captain expressed his confidence that the match will be played in the right spirit. "There are a lot of good relations within the two teams. Over the years they've played a lot against each other, and a number of players have played with each other, as well," said Williamson ahead of the NZ Vs PAK match.

"I am sure the game will be played in the right spirit," he added.

New Zealand had cancelled the ODI series following an "escalation in the New Zealand Government threat levels for Pakistan". Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) did not take the matter well and Ramiz Raja, the new PCB chief said, "We had one team in our target, our neighbours (India), now add two more teams, New Zealand and England," in a press conference in September 2021.

'Pakistan Are One Of The Favourites' - Williamson

"I suppose the focus now is here at the T20 World Cup, and no doubt after the performance last night, Pakistan have some momentum and are feeling pretty good about their cricket," said Williamson.

"Yeah, I mean, it was a fantastic performance. I think Pakistan have come to the T20 World Cup full of confidence, having played in these conditions more than most," he said.

"They certainly put it on show last night and showed why they're one of the favourites in the competition."

New Zealand plays their first match of the tournament against Pakistan on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
