New Delhi: Australia have added leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson to replace Mitchell Starc for the upcoming for Test series in Bangladesh.

The selectors opted for spin over pace and the 23-year-old will join the original 13-man squad for the first Test series in Bangladesh since 2006.

With Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and James Pattinson already in the 13-member squad to lead the pace attack, Swepson inclusion will provide much needed depth to the spin line-up.

Swepson will face competition from Nathan Lyon and Ashton Agar to seal his place in the starting XI.

Australia will play Bangladesh in 2-match Test series, which begins in Mirpur on 27 August followed by one in Chittagong in early September.

Squad: Steve Smith (c), David Warner (vc), Ashton Agar, Hilton Cartwright, Pat Cummins, Peter Handscomb, Josh Hazlewood, Usman Khawaja, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, James Pattinson, Matthew Renshaw, Matthew Wade and Mitchell Swepson.
