It took 11 long years for the Indian team to break their ICC trophy drought, as they triumphed in the T20 World Cup 2024 Final by defeating South Africa by seven runs on June 29 (Saturday). From the Indian players and support staff celebrating in Barbados to fans rejoicing across India, the celebrations were truly iconic. Following the victory, a viral photo captured Suryakumar Yadav posing with the World Cup trophy while lying down, with his wife also pictured alongside it.

As the team celebrated their win, their families also joined in the festivities. Devisha Shetty, Suryakumar Yadav’s wife, had the honour of holding the prestigious T20 World Cup trophy and shared photos on her social media, tagging her husband, Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar Yadav's Heroic Catch Puts The Final Nail In South Africa's Coffin

Suryakumar Yadav played a crucial role in India’s World Cup win. Suryakumar’s pivotal catch to dismiss David Miller proved to be the turning point in the match. 

On the first ball of the last over, with South Africa needing 16 runs to win, Hardik Pandya bowled a wide full-toss to David Miller. Miller managed a powerful hit towards long-off, where Suryakumar Yadav was stationed. Yadav sprinted to his left, catching the ball just before it could cross the boundary, skillfully avoiding stepping on the cushions. He juggled momentarily but managed to regain control, tossing the ball back inside the boundary as he momentarily went over the ropes. Quickly readjusting, he re-entered the field, steadied himself and completed the catch, showcasing exceptional presence of mind.

Earlier in the IND vs SA Final, Virat Kohli played a crucial innings, scoring 76 runs off 59 balls. India's early wickets bolstered their chances, but it was Suryakumar Yadav's match-winning catch in the last over that sealed the victory.
