'Breaks My Heart': Shreevats Goswami Posts Shocking Video Alleging Match-Fixing In Kolkata First Division League
Shreevats Goswami has alleged match-fixing in a Kolkata First Division League fixture.
Shreevats Goswami, the Bengal wicketkeeper-batter who was part of the 2008 Under-19 World Cup-winning side under Virat Kohli, took to social media to share two videos alleging match-fixing in Cricket Association of Bengal's (CAB) first division league fixture. The clips were from the match between Mohammedan Sporting and Town Club and the ex-Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star claimed that the batters of Mohammedan Sporting deliberately got out in order to concede seven points to their opponents which happens to be associated with ex-India manager Debabrata Das, the present CAB secretary.
It is pertinent to note that Dab was the Indian team's administrative manager during their tour of England in 2022. In the first of the twin videos, the right-handed batter leaves a ball that crashes onto his stumps, in the second, the left-handed batter came down the wicket against a wide ball to get out stumped.
"This is a Super Division match in Kolkata Club Cricket, two big teams doing this, any idea what’s going on here? I am ashamed to see this having played the game which is so close to my heart. I love cricket and I love playing in Bengal but looking at this breaks my heart. Club cricket is heart and soul of Bengal cricket please don’t ruin it. I think this is called ‘got up’ cricket. Where is the media now?" Goswami wrote along with the video.
No Commnents Yet From CAB Secretary Debabrata Das
While there was no comment on the match-fixing allegations that were made by secretary Debabrata Das, CAB President Snehashish Ganguly did ask for a report from the umpires.
"We have called a tournament committee meeting on March 2 to take up the matter," Ganguly said as quoted in a PTI report.
As far as Goswami is concerned, the stumper announced his retirement from first-class cricket in October last year.
