Shikhar Dhawan unhappy with SRH, likely to join MI for IPL 2019
Dhawan was earlier a part of the MI franchise in the 2nd and third edition of the Indian Premier League
Shikhar Dhawan, the star Indian opener, seems to be unhappy from his team and now seeks a change. Not the national side but his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRh), to which the 32-year-old has been giving his services since 2103. Ahead of the 12th edition of the cash-rich tournament, Dhawan expressed his disparity and is likely to be drafted to one of his former sides, Mumbai Indians.
According to a Mumbai Mirror report, Dhawan is reportedly unhappy with his low fee and has shown a desire to leave. Hence, the Sunrisers are negotiating a transfer for him with the Mumbai Indians.
On the other hand, Dhawan’s contract with the SRH would keep him with the franchise for the next three years but a move can be forced out. The reports claimed that the ace Indian opener with head coach Tom Moody and being one of the top four limited-overs players in team India, he wanted the franchise to retain him as the No.1 or No. 2 player.
“That’s right. If we get a couple of good players as a trade-off, we’re open to it,” a Sunrisers official was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
It has also been learned that the franchise is negotiating a deal with Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Daredevils at the moment. Earlier, Quinton de Kock became the first player to be transferred from one Royal Challengers Bangalore to MI through the IPL trading window which is currently open for a week. The Protea wicketkeeper has been bought by MI, which has released Bangladesh pacer, Mustafizur Rahman.
While the top Indian cricketers like Virat Kohli (Rs 17 crore), Rohit Sharma (Rs 15 crore), MS Dhoni (Rs 15 crore) have cracked humongous deals, Dhawan was retained for Rs 5.2 crore in the 2018 mega auctions.
Dhawan was earlier a part of the MI franchise in the 2nd and third edition of the IPL. If he joins back his former side, will be joining his Indian teammate and opening partner Rohit Sharma. The duo will reunite which could be a huge boost for the Mumbai outfit ahead of the new season.
