Robin Uthappa willing to return to Karnataka domestic side

The Indian batsman himself approached the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and showed interest in participating in KPL

Robin Uthappa, the dynamic Indian batsman, represented Saurashtra in the 2017-18 domestic season. After playing for Karnataka for 15 years, it was his decision to switch teams in the Ranji trophy. However, now it seems that Uthappa is willing to return home as he is set to play for Bengaluru Blasters in the upcoming Karnataka Premier League (KPL).

As per several media reports, the 32-year-old himself spoke to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and showed interest in participating in KPL. On the other hand, the association was delighted to have him back.

“I spoke to the KSCA and expressed my interest to come back and play the KPL. They were very happy about it. It is an opportunity to play in front of them (local fans) and receive their love. I want to make the most of that,” Uthappa said.

Back in the 2016-17 season, Uthappa was dropped from the state squad for Ranji quarterfinal on disciplinary grounds which resulted in the souring of their ties. But a season later, the right-hand batter believes it’s important to bring the relationship back on track. Admitting his mistakes done in the past, he said,

“There were certain areas where I kind of overstepped and I had to man up and apologise, take responsibility.”

At the same time, he revealed what a season with Saurashtra made him learn.

“In hindsight, it was a challenging shift to make. It has helped me in a lot of ways, understand a lot of things, and also helped mend fences with KSCA. There were a few things that I needed to fix, and I was able to do that. I am glad about it,” he said.
