Raina's perfect homecoming, fan runs in to touch his feet in the middle of IPL match
New Delhi: Suresh Raina on Wednesday joined the elite league of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni. A fan breached the security at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, touched Raina’s feet and also got a shake of the hands before being escorted off the field.
His team might have suffered a heart-breaking last over defeat to Delhi Daredevils but it was a perfect homecoming for Gujarat’s captain Suresh Raina.
The security at the Green Park might not have the opportunity to state the same though, as they let a young man reach to Suresh Raina, standing near the middle of the pitch without much difficulty at all.
In the fourth over of the Delhi Daredevils chase, the young man suddenly made his way into the middle and touched Raina’s feet. He even managed to get a hand-shake from his hero. And to his credit he left the ground without any hustle as soon as the security personnel reached.
The young man had even tried to meet Raina in the team hotel but could not found a way in.
This was the first match in Kanpur of this year’s IPL and the spectators came out in numbers to get behind local hero Suresh Raina’s team Gujarat Lions, despite them having no chance of advancing to the play-offs.
The capacity crowd, however could not see a Gujarat win as Delhi had the last laughs thanks to a career best 96-run knock by Shreyas Iyer. Delhi went on to chase the 196-run target in the last over with 2 wickets in hand.
