Kusal Perera was rushed to hospital for a scan in an ambulance after he fell down awkwardly over the advertising hoarding. He was trying to take a catch in the long-on boundary during the third day’s play of the West Indies-Sri Lanka second Test match at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Thankfully Perera was cleared of any serious injuries. The Sri Lanka team manager Asanka Gurusinha confirmed that Perera was out of danger after the hospital kept him under observation for considerable amount of time.

“He is cleared of any serious injury. But we will have to see how he comes up tomorrow morning before making a decision. He is very sore,” said Gurusinha.

There was no update on Perera’s injury even at the close of play.

The incident took place in the 29th over of the West Indies second innings when Shanon Gabirel lofted off-spinner Dilruwan Perera towards the long-on area. Kusal Perera, standing at long on, reacted quickly and almost pulled off a stunning one-handed catch but the momentum of jump took him over the boundary ropes and straight through the advertising hoardings.

Perera did not move an inch after the impact, raising concerns over his wellbeing. The Sri Lankan players along with the physio gathered immediately to attend the injured cricketer. An ambulance too was rushed in to take him to the hospital.

Sri Lanka bowled out West Indies for 93 but Perera was unable to open the innings.

Danushka Gunathilaka and Mahela Udawatte opened in Sri Lanka's quest to chase down 144.

At stumps on Day 3, the visitors were reduced to 81 for 5 courtesy a hostile spell of fast bowling by captain Jason Holder (4/21). Sri Lanka still need 63 runs with five wickets in hand.
