New Delhi: Herschelle Gibbs was one of those cricketers who could not only change the course of the game but also provide stability to a batting order. And when on song, clearing the boundary was as effortless as a stroll in the park.

It was one of those days exactly 10 years ago on March 17, 2007 when Gibbs did something that was never seen before and is yet to be matched till date in One Day internationals.

Gibbs nonchalantly hit six sixes in an over in World Cup 2007. Netherlands’ Daan van Bunge was at the receiving ends.

It was a tournament opener for both South Africa and Netherlands and Gibbs chose to make it his own.

South Africa scored a mammoth 353 for 4 in their allotted 40 overs (curtailed match). Gibbs slammed 72 off 40 balls.

Apart from the Gibbs’ six sixes there were other records too. With his 75 off 31 balls Boucher became the fastest half-centurion in a World Cup. 18 sixes were hit in that incredible match which the Proteas won by 221 runs.
