Mohammad Rizwan Erupts At PCB: 'Give Me More Power Or Else...' - Report

Mohammad Rizwan is reportedly demanding greater authority, particularly in team selection for both T20Is and ODIs.

Pakistan cricket team, under Mohammad Rizwan's captaincy, recently concluded a disappointing tour of New Zealand, where they suffered a 3-0 whitewash in the ODI series. As focus shifts to the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL), internal issues have started to surface within the national setup.

According to a report in Telecom Asia Sport, sources told the website that Mohammad Rizwan is reportedly unhappy with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The rift is said to have deepened following Pakistan's early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy, where the team failed to win a single match on home soil. In the aftermath, Rizwan was stripped of the T20 captaincy, and Babar Azam was also dropped from the shortest format.

Rizwan demands greater say in team matters

Sources close to the PCB suggest that Rizwan is demanding greater authority, particularly in team selection for both T20Is and ODIs. He is reportedly seeking more influence over the playing XI and overall squad decisions. If these demands are not addressed, Rizwan could consider stepping down from his role as ODI captain.

PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet with Rizwan soon to discuss the situation. The outcome of this meeting could have a major impact on the future leadership structure of Pakistan cricket.

The PCB source said: "Rizwan will seek more power in the selection of eleven in the match and there is a possibility that if not given full powers then he might resign from ODI captaincy."

Coaching shake-op on horizon

The report also reveals that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is exploring the possibility of appointing a new foreign head coach.

Aaqib Javed, who took over as head coach in December 2024, may be replaced as part of the board's broader revamp efforts. The move signals a likely shift in the team's strategy and preparation following a string of underwhelming performances. The coming weeks could be crucial for Pakistan cricket.
