Kohli-led Indian Test Team Formidable Unit With Prolific Run-getters, Potent Pace Attack And Lethal Spin Armoury

Kohli has equalled MS Dhoni as India's most successful skipper in Test cricket. What makes Kohli's record even more impressive is the fact that he has registered 27 Test wins in only his 47th game as skipper.

In cricket there goes a common saying that the captain is as good as his team. There have been examples a plenty in the past where great teams led by brilliant leaders had the ideal playing combinations to extend their hegemony at the very top of international cricket. Be it the mighty West Indies under Clive Lloyd and Sir Vivian Richards or the unconquerable Australians under Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting, those dominant sides had outright match-winners in their ranks which enabled their skippers to craft match winning strategies around their The current Indian team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli is a well oiled unit with clear cut demarcation of roles assigned to each player; Each member plays to his best of abilities to contribute in the overall interest of the team. When Virat took over the reins of the captaincy from MS Dhoni back in 2014-15, there were quite a few eyebrows raised on whether he could handle the pressure of Test Captaincy and make Indian cricket a force to reckon with. Over four years since taking over the captaincy, Kohli has equalled MS Dhoni as India's most successful skipper in Test cricket. What makes Kohli's record even more impressive is the fact that he has registered 27 Test wins in only his 47th game as skipper. For the record, Dhoni had achieved the same number of wins in 60 matches. While Kohli's record at home has been simply outstanding with India winning 15 off the 21 Tests , what is even more notable is his impressive overseas record which has seen India winning a record 12 out of the 26 Tests. Kohli has eclipsed Sourav Ganguly (11 overseas Test wins) as India's most successful overseas skipper in red ball cricket. Much like his predecessors, Kohli made the Indian team an unbreachable fortress at home as the team went onto win a record bilateral series on home soil. India was virtually unbeatable at home and had a golden run in red ball cricket, which saw them becoming the number one ranked team in the World. Kohli has weaponry in his arsenal to excel in different conditions around the world and dominate opposition to win matches on a consistent basis. On home conditions, Kohli has been fortunate to have a solid opening pair in Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan who provided the stability at the top of the innings. Both Vijay and Dhawan have laid a strong platform at the top of the order to help the middle order consolidate the runs and pile up some huge totals. With Dhawan being in and out of the test side, Vijay, in recent seasons has been partnered by the elegant KL Rahul who despite being pretty up and down has played a few classy knocks against quality bowling attacks and been a healthy contributor with the willow at the top of the innings. At number 3, he has a rock solid workhorse in Cheteshwar Pujara who mastered the art of occupying the crease and grinding the best of bowling attacks. Pujara with his dodged defence and sound technique has been the workhorse in the middle order. Pujara also has the penchant to score double tons when he gets his eye in and usually excelled at playing the sheet anchor's role. The skipper himself walks out at the Number 4 position and has in all respects been the lynchpin of the Indian batting. The stroke maker has been a prolific run scorer across all conditions in the world and has the penchant to play the big knocks with superlative consistency. Kohli's ability to score match winning  tons against quality bowling  attacks puts him in the league of the very best in Test cricket. Ajiknya Rahane is one of India's most gifted stroke-maker who makes batting look pleasing to the eye. Rahane has been a valuable asset to the team in overseas conditions where the ball swings and seams quite a bit. Along with skipper Kohli and Pujara, Rahane forms the meat of the middle order. The Indian batting has depth with all-rounders in Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, both of whom have made meaningful contributions with the bat lower down the order. The emergence of seam all-rounder Hardik Pandya has provided Indian with more balance in their side. Under Kohli, India has a reliable wicket-keeper batsman in Wridhiman Saha who has been pretty tidy behind the stumps with his clinical glovesmanship. Saha has also chipped in with handy scores down the order for the Indian team. Never before did the  Indians have such firepower in their fast bowling attack. Indians have been spoilt for choices with a power-packed seam attack who have been instrumental in helping the team win matches abroad. There is a good variety in the pace battery with  outright tearaway speedsters in Umesh Yadav and hit the deck bowler in the seasoned campaigner Ishant Sharma and the master in seam and swing in Mohammad Shami. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been used a strike weapon on seaming tracks. Meanwhile Jasprit Bumrah has been revelation in Test cricket and been a strike weapon with the new ball over the last one season. India's lethal spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja has been the greatest match winners for the Indian team in the spinning tracks back at home. The Ashwin-Jaddu pair has cast web around the best of batting lineups on the spin friendly tracks of the subcontinent. Ashwin in particular has been menacing with his and been the architect of many a wins. The emergence of Kuldeep Yadav has made the Indian spin attack look ever more potent. In a nutshell, the Indian team had the arsenal both in their batting and bowling armoury to dominate Test cricket in the near future under the captaincy of Virat Kohli
