It is being learnt that his reappointment as the continental cricket governing body's chief was a decision which was agreed upon unanimously during it's Annual General Meeting in Bali on Wendesday (January 31).
Shah was appointed as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the first time in 2021. At that time, he had replaced Nazmul Hassan. His tenure as the ACC President was then extended to January 2023. It is pertinent to note that Shah has the distinction of being the youngest administrator to take charge as the ACC chief.
Jay Shah's Third Consecutive Term As ACC Chief
It is being reported that Shah's term as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has been extended by one year. While Shah's third consecutive term was proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) president Shammi Silva for the second time, the nomination, it is being learnt was unanimously backed by all the members of the ACC.
With Shah at the helm of affairs of ACC, the body has achieved significant progress in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region, despite him being in charge during a tough phase of Coronavirus pandemic. Notably, the ACC successfully organized the Asia Cup in T20 format in 2022 and in ODI format in 2023, showcasing Asia's capability in hosting premier cricket events.
Shah also had a role to play in Asia Cup 2023 being played in a hybrid model as India remained adamant on not travelling to Pakistan. This meant even though Pakistan remained the hosts, all India matches including the final were played in Sri Lanka. The 35-year-old continues to serve as the BCCI Secretary where he is into his second term.
