'It’s GOLD! Well done ladies': Wishes Pour In After Indian Women Cricket Team's Historic Show In Asian Games 2023

The Indian Women’s cricket team won the gold medal at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 which is taking place in Hangzhou. They defeated Sri Lanka by 19 runs in the final on Monday. After winning the toss, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur opted to bat first. Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues scored 46 and 42 respectively and stitched a 73-run partnership for the second wicket.

The Indians managed to post a total of  116/7 in 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka batters kept losing wickets at regular intervals and as a result, they were bundled out at 97/8 and India secured the gold medal, winning by 19 runs. For India, it was Titas Sadhu who exploited the new ball by dismissing both the openers Chamari Athapaththu and Anushka Sanjeewani and also snared Vishmi Gunaratne, leaving Sri Lanka reeling at 14 for 3 in 4.2 overs. Batters Hasini Perera and Nilakshi de Silva did try to put up a fightback as both went on to add a 36-run stand. Perera made 25 runs off 22 balls while De Silva collected 23 runs off 34 deliveries. 

Moments after winning the Gold medal, Twitter started buzzing with a lot of congratulatory messages from the sports fraternity.
