However, the IPL 2025 mega auction is set to take place much sooner, in November this year. The IPL mega auction will most likely see some numerous big names set to be released by their franchises in hopes of securing substantial contracts. Each IPL franchise can retain up to six players, with a maximum of five capped and two uncapped players.
The upcoming 2025 IPL mega auction, the sixth in league history, has the shortest gap between auctions, following the 2022 event. The franchises are set to finalise their list of retained players within the deadline set by the IPL governing council before releasing others into the player pool for the mega auction.

What is the deadline for each IPL team to announce their retained players list ahead of the IPL 2025 Auction?
The IPL Governing Council has set a deadline of Thursday, October 31, for all IPL teams to submit their list of retained players ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Each team must finalise and announce their retained players by 5 PM IST on Thursday.
The retained players lists are expected to be released either through a live TV broadcast and stream or directly by the franchises on their social media accounts.
Where can fans watch the live telecast and live streaming of the IPL retention announcements by teams?
Jio Cinema will live stream the announcement from 4:30 PM IST. Star Sports Network will provide the live telecast of the same at 4:30 PM IST.
For the unversed, the BCCI has announced that teams can retain up to six players from their current squad for this year's mega auction, using either direct retention or the returning Right To Match (RTM) option. Each team may retain a maximum of five capped players and two uncapped players.
