Despite scoring 39-ball-fifty, Prithvi Shaw fails to reach a 'unique' milestone

Young Indian opener Prithvi Shaw on Saturday yet again showcased his terrific batting performance in the 2nd Test against West Indies in Hyderabad. Hammering the Caribbean bowling attack right from the beginning, he brought up his fifty in just 39 balls with the help of 8 fours and a six.
He continued punishing the West Indies bowlers in the post-lunch session as he struck 3 more boundaries and notched up 70 runs against his name. Before he could go further to score the 2nd Test century in just the second game of his career, he was caught by Shimron Hetmyer at cover.
Though he became the 8th Indian batsman to score 50+ runs in first two innings, he missed reaching a unique feat. Had he scored another hundred, he would have joined the elite club of very few batsmen who scored back to back centuries in their first two Test matches. Moreover, only three Indians have reached this milestone so far.
Here is the list of batsmen who scored back to back hundreds in the first two Test matches of their career:
1. Mohammad Azharuddin: Azharuddin made his debut in 1984 and scored back to back hundreds against England. 110 at the Eden Gardens followed by 122 in the second Test. The stylish right-handed batsmen, in fact, scored three back to back hundreds in his first three Tests against England.
2. Doug Walters: 53 years back Doug Walters achieved a feat of scoring back to back hundreds in the first two Tests of his career. Both centuries came against England.
3. Greg Blewett: England was again happened to be at the receiving end. Greg Blewett scored 102 followed by a score of 115 in his first two Test matches and established himself in the Australian Test side.
4. Bill Ponsford: The Aussie great scored two centuries in a row when he made his debut 94 years back in 1924. Both the centuries again came against England.
5. Sourav Ganguly: The Prince of Calcutta played a gem in Lords in his debut Test match followed by another stellar knock in Nottingham. Two hundreds against England in his first two Test matches in 1996 made him a regular member in Team India after which he never looked back from there.
6. Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma might have lost his place from the Indian Test side but he didn't start his Test career badly. In fact, the hit-man scored two hundreds in a row in his first two Test matches. Both the tons came against West Indies.
7. Jimmy Neesham: The Kiwi batsman scored two hundreds in a row against India in 2014. Two centuries in first two Test matches signalled the arrival of a new star from New Zealand.
8. Alvin Kallichharan: Kallicharan, an integral part of the unbeatable Caribbean side of 1970's immediately shown signs of his greatness when he was drafted into the Test side. In 1972, Alvin Kallicharan scored centuries in both first and second Test matches of his career against the Kiwis.
