India vs Pakistan ODI World Cup Match Set To Take Place On October 15: Report
India will begin their ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 campaign against Australia.
In a big update with regards to the ICC Men's ODI World Cup 2023 slated to be played in the months of October and November, it is now being learned that the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 15.
The same has been confirmed in a report carried by Cricbuzz which has also claimed that the tournament opener will be played between the finalists of the previous edition of the tournament- England and New Zealand in Ahmedabad on October 5 with the final also set set to be staged at the same venue on November 19.
India, who had lost to New Zealand in the semifinal of the competition in 2019, will begin their tournament against the most successful side in World Cups- Australia. Chances are that the India's tournament opener will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, as is being claimed by multiple reports.
Meanwhile, Pakistan are expected to play their matches in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru as per the the tentative schedule of the high-profile affair. Other then the abovementioned venues, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Indore, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Rajkot and Raipur are set to host the World Cup matches in India. The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which hosted the 2011 World Cup final in which India defeated Sri Lanka is likely to host one of the semifinals this year.
Notably, this is the first time that the entire World Cup will be hosted by India. While the 1996 edition of the competition was co-hosted by India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the 2011 edition of the tournament was co-hosted by India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Much like the last edition of World Cup, the matches of the tournanent will be played in a round-robin format with each team playing the other at least once. After every side has played 9 matches each, the top four teams will proceed to the semifinals.
