'Should Have Spoken With Bit Of Manners': Bangladesh Captain Blasts Harmanpreet Kaur For Insulting Hosts

After IND-W vs BAN-W 3rd ODI got over, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur didn't mince her words while slamming 'poor umpiring standards' throughout the ODI series. 

Bangladesh women's team captain Nigar Sultana Joty hits out at Harmanpreet Kaur, saying that as a player, the Indian captain "should have spoken with a bit of manners."

A massive controversy erupted during the second One-Day-International match between India and Bangladesh women's cricket team on Saturday (July 22), which took place at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla cricket stadium. Chasing 226 runs for the win, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur was given LBW out by the umpire after which the senior batter lost her cool and smashed the stumps with her bat before walking back to the dugout. The 34-year-old even had a heated exchange with the umpire, letting him know that the ball had contacted the bat before hitting her pads. Notably, even if Harmanpreet was right and the ball did hit the bat, the slip fielder did take a catch.

The tense IND-W vs BAN-W 2nd ODI match ended in a draw but there was no Super Over and as a result India women vs Bangladesh women three-match ODI series ended in a 1-1 tie. After the match got over, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur didn't mince her words while slamming 'poor umpiring standards' throughout the ODI series. 

"A lot of learning from this game. Even apart from the cricket, the type of umpiring that was happening there, we were very surprised. The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we'll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly we'll have to prepare ourselves....we controlled the game very well but as I mentioned earlier some pathetic umpiring was done and we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires," Harmanpreet said.

Bangladesh women's team captain Nigar Sultana Joty slammed Harmanpreet Kaur, saying that as a player, the Indian captain "should have spoken with a bit of manners."

"It’s what she (Harmanpreet Kaur) did and we have nothing to do about it. But as a player, she should have spoken with a bit of manners. It’s completely her matter and I would not want to make any comments on her. There were some talks which I cannot disclose. But I felt the environment was not right and so we left the place. Cricket is a respectful sport and is a gentlemen’s game,” Joty said.
