IND vs WI: Sanju Samson Replaces Injured Shikhar Dhawan For T20I series
Dhawan injured his left knee during the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that he needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely
Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has replaced injured opener Shikhar Dhawan for the upcoming T20I series against West Indies, scheduled to begin from December 6 in Hyderabad.
The BCCI on Wednesday confirmed the development through a statement.
Dhawan sustained a deep cut on his left knee during the Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. The BCCI Medical Team has suggested that Dhawan needs some more time for his stitches to come off and his wound to heal completely. The selectors had announced the Indian ODI and T20I squad for series against West Indies on November 21. Samson's exclusion from the squad did not go down well with many supporters as they criticised the selectors for not giving him a chance. Samson was a part of the T20I squad for series against Bangladesh, but he was not given a chance in the playing XI as Rishabh Pant was preferred over him. It has also been learned that wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha sustained a fracture on his right ring finger during the recently concluded Pink ball Test in Kolkata against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team consulted a hand and wrist specialist and it was suggested that Saha undergoes a surgical fixation of the fracture. Subsequently, he underwent successful surgery in Mumbai on Tuesday and will soon commence his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru. India's T20I squad for the series against West Indies: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Rishabh Pant, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami.
