Rohit Sharma creates a new captaincy record
After leading India to attain a five-wicket win over Windies in the first T20I of the ongoing series, captain Rohit Sharma has the most number of wins in his first ten T20I matches
Breaking the record of former Australian skipper Michael Clarke and Pakistan's Shoaib Malik, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, after leading India to attain a five-wicket win over Windies in the first T20I of the ongoing series, created an elusive record as captain. As a captain, the 31–year-old has the most number of wins in his first ten T20I matches.
Without Dhoni and Kohli, Rohit-led India ended a four-match winless run against the West Indies with a five-wicket victory that came on the back of debutant Krunal Pandya's flourish and Dinesh Karthik's poise.
The stand-in skipper praised his bowlers for their "exceptional performance" after a hard-fought five wicket win over the West Indies. However, Sharma also conceded that the low-scoring match at the Eden Gardens also had some lessons for his batsmen.
"It was an exceptional performance with the ball. There was quite a bit for the seamers upfront. Even for the spinners, if they put in the revs, it was spinning. There was a little bit in every department," Sharma said after India reached a winning 110/5 in 17.5 overs in reply to the visitor's 109/8.
"We used the conditions well, were in trouble chasing. We knew it won't be easy given the seamers they have, but there's some learning for us there, what we should do as a batting unit when conditions are in our favour," he said after the match.
India will to get their second straight against Windies in Lucknow in the second T20I of the three-match series.
