After losing the Test and ODI series against India, the West Indies have suffered a major setback before the T20 series. Team's star all-rounder Andre Russell will miss the T20I series against India due to knee injury. According to the media reports, Russell sustained injury during the Afghanistan Premier League from which he has not been able to recover.
The three-match series between India and the West Indies starts on Sunday with the first match played at Eden Gardens Stadium. Russell was not seen practicing with the team on Saturday before the match.
Cricket Windies released a statement later with the Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne saying that Russell was "injured at this time."
Local manager of the Bengal Cricket Association (CAB), who has been associated with the West Indies team, told that Russell had left flight to Kolkata from Dubai on Friday morning.
Recently, due to a shoulder injury Ashley Nurse was also ruled out of the T20Is. The West Indies are already missing their crucial players like Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree due to various reasons.
The first match of the three-match T20I series between India and West Indies that will be played in Kolkata's historic Eden Gardens on Sunday.
