IND vs WI, 2nd Test: Hanuma Vihari Hits Maiden Test Century At Jamaica's Sabina Park
Vihari's stellar ton helped India notch up an imposing 416-run total in their first innings against the hosts and take a commanding position against the Windies
Indian middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari, playing only his 5th Test match, scored his maiden century against West Indies at Sabina Park, Kingston on Saturday. Vihari's stellar ton helped India notch up an imposing 416-run total in their first innings against the hosts. By reaching his maiden ton, Vihari became the 2nd Indian to score a century after Ajinkya Rahane during the ongoing 2-Test series.
Vihari also contributed significantly to India's win in the series opener at Antigua as he scored a breezy 93 and missed the century mark by just 7 runs
On Day 2 of the second Test, Vihari resumed the Indian innings with with Rishabh Pant, at 264/5 but the latter was castled by West Indies captain Jason Holder off the very 1st ball of Day 2. With Pant back to the pavilion, Vihari held one end tight and stitched a valiant partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.
Vihari and Jadeja's resilient partnership took India across the 300-run mark but just as the left-hander was looking settled, the former threw it away with an ugly slog off Rahkheem Cornwall, gifting the debutant his 2nd Test wicket.
After Jadeja departed, Vihari got handy support from fast bowler Ishant Sharma as the duo took India to Lunch without any further blows. Like Vihari, Ishant also crossed his highest Test score (31*) from 9 years ago which he scored against Sri Lanka at Galle. Vihari eventually strokes his way to his maiden ton laced with 15 boundaries.
Before his latest knock, Vihari had hit 18 First-class centuries and averaged close to 60. He also has a triple century to his name (302*) which he hit for Andhra against Odisha in during the 2017-18 Ranji Trophy.
