IND Vs WI, 2nd Test, Day 2 HIGHLIGHTS: West Indies Fight Back After Virat Kohli's First Away Ton In Five Years Helps India's Post 438

IND Vs WI, 2nd Test, Day 2 HIGHLIGHTS: Virat Kohli's splendid innings came to an end when he got run-out for just the third time in his Test career.

Resuming from 288/4, India went on to pile 438 runs in their first innings of the second Test match against West Indies at the Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad. Virat Kohli (121), who was unbeaten on 88, completed what was his 76th international hundred and his first away hundred in the last five years. In addition, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (61) and Ravichandran Ashwin (56) scored half-centuries in India's batting efforts which saw a contribution of 25 from wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan in his second Test innings.

Jomel Warrican and Kemar Roach were the pick of the bowlers for West Indies as they finished with figures of 3 for 89 and 3 for 104 respectively. Jason Holder was also chipped with a couple of wickets. Among the wickets to fall on Day 2, Kohli got run out by a direct hit throw from Alzarri Joseph, who was stationed at square leg. This was just the third instance of Kohli getting run-out in the longest format of the game in his 500th international fixture. Two of Warrican's three wickets came on Day 2 while Holder and Roach also picked a wicket each.

In response to India's formidable first innings effort, the West Indies openers made sure that India had to toil hard for their first breakthrough. The visiting team got their first wicket and their only one of the innings so far in the 35th over of the match when Tagenarine Chanderpaul went for an aerial stroke off Ravindra Jadeja but failed to get the desired connection eventually getting caught at point by Ravichandran Ashwin. Chanderpaul departed for 33 to end a 71-run opening stand.

Till the end of the second day's play, India did not succeed in finding another wicket with captain Kraigg Brathwaite (37) and debutant Kirk McKenzie (14) seeing the team through to Stumps.  Despite a gritty effort so far and nine wickets in their bag, West Indies trail India's first innings total by 352 runs.
