Mohammed Siraj May Face ICC Action - Here's What The Rule Says

Siraj removed Ben Duckett in the sixth over. After taking the wicket, he approached Duckett as he was walking off the field and showed visible anger.

The third match of the 5-match Test series being played between India and England from July 10 is currently underway. On July 13, the fourth day of the match, Mohammad Siraj dismissed Ben Duckett and sent him back to the pavilion.

This was a major breakthrough for India. However, after taking the wicket, Siraj showed intense aggression.

The fast bowler went up to the English batter and shouted loudly. Now, the ICC might take disciplinary action against Siraj for his actions. A fine may also be imposed. Let’s understand what the ICC rule says about this.

Siraj’s Intense Aggression

On the fourth day of the match, Siraj removed Ben Duckett in the sixth over. After taking the wicket, he approached Duckett as he was walking off the field and showed visible anger.

Siraj glared at him and shouted loudly in a display of aggression. Because of this behavior, the ICC might now take action against Mohammad Siraj, which could include a hefty fine.

Know What ICC Rule Says

The ICC can take action against Siraj under Article 2.5 of its Code of Conduct for Players and Support Staff.

According to this rule, if a bowler behaves aggressively in a way that could provoke the batter, disciplinary action may be taken.

Siraj’s actions fall under this clause, and as a result, he may be penalized. If found guilty, Siraj could face a 20 percent deduction in his match fee along with one demerit point on his disciplinary record.

Siraj’s Impressive Performance

Despite the controversy, Siraj has performed well with the ball for India in the Lord’s Test.

In the first innings, he bowled 23.3 overs and took 2 wickets while conceding 85 runs. So far in the second innings, he has already taken 2 more wickets, including those of Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett.

Mohammed Siraj’s overall stats at Lord’s have been excellent—he has now taken 12 wickets at this venue. Given these performances, it’s clear that Siraj remains one of India’s most important bowlers.
