Joe Root Slams 37th Test Century, Surpasses Dravid And Smith To Enter Elite List

Joe Root has now officially broken into the top five players with the most centuries in Test cricket history

England’s batting maestro Joe Root added another feather to his illustrious cap on Day 2 of the 3rd Test between India and England, scoring his 37th Test century in style.

On Day 1 of Lord’s Test, Joe Root stood firm at the crease, ending the day unbeaten on 99 runs from 191 deliveries. Wasting no time on the second morning, Root brought up his century in style by striking a boundary off the very first ball of the day.

He reached his 37th Test hundred in 192 balls, an innings that featured 10 well-timed fours and showcased his trademark composure and class.

Root’s brilliant knock not only anchored England’s innings but also took him past cricket legends Rahul Dravid and Steve Smith, who each have 36 Test hundreds to their name.

With this milestone, Root has now officially broken into the top five players with the most centuries in Test cricket history — a list dominated by icons of the game.

Most Test Centuries (All-Time)

Sachin Tendulkar – 51

Jacques Kallis – 45

Ricky Ponting – 41

Kumar Sangakkara – 38

Joe Root – 37

(Rahul Dravid & Steve Smith – 36)

Joe Root's century came at a crucial time for England, who were looking to build a solid first-innings lead against a strong Indian pace attack.

His innings, filled with elegant drives and masterful footwork, reminded fans of his vintage form and why he continues to be one of the best batters in the modern era.

Root’s latest achievement cements his legacy as England’s most prolific Test batter, and his consistency over the years has seen him become a mainstay in discussions around all-time greats. With plenty of cricket still ahead of him, there is every possibility that Root could climb even higher in this elite list.

As the series progresses, all eyes will remain on Root — not just for his impact in this series, but for how far he can go in rewriting Test cricket records.
