During the opening Test of the series against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday, Virat Kohli played a brilliant 87-ball knock of 64, hitting seven boundaries and a six.

While opener KL Rahul failed to impress once again, scoring just 3. Teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw played a mature innings as he hit a 69-ball 66.

However, the in-form Kohli seems prepared to overcome grueling challenge from the Australian fast bowling attack. This definitely increases India’s chances to win their first series in Australia.

Murali Vijay can possibly be seen once again back at the top after Rahul’s disappointing performance.

Apart from Shaw and Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara scored a patient 89-ball 54. The left-hander’s half century has now increased his chances to open for his squad instead of Rohit Sharma in the first Test.

After put to bat first by the Cricket Australia XI, it was the perfect opportunity for the Indian batsmen to adapt to the condition and get an overview of what exactly they would face from the Australian pace attack in the four-match series.

The first-day Cricket Australia XI vs India tour game was called off without a ball being bowled here at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Continuous drizzling kept the players away as inclement weather didn't relent at all.
