IND vs BAN: Rohit Sharma To Set Major World Record In Rajkot T20I

Rohit will become only the third cricketer in the world, after Pakistan’s Shoaib Malik and India's Harmanpreet Kaur, to play 100 T20 International matches

Stand-in Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is on the verge of attaining a major feat when he takes the field against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I in Rajkot on Thursday. The HITMAN will join Shoaib Malik of Pakistan (111) and Indian women's cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur (100) in becoming only the third cricketer in the world to play 100 international matches in the shortest format of the game. Earlier in the Delhi clash, Rohit surpassed MS Dhoni to become the most capped Indian cricketer in the shortest format of the game. He made his 99th appearance for the national team. He also went ahead of Virat Kohli in terms of highest run-getter in T20Is across the world. The 30-year-old couldn’t do much with the bat as he garnered just 9 runs after opening the innings. However, Rohit extended his tally to 2,452 runs in this format, making it 2 runs more than Kohli. Martin Guptill (2,326), Shoaib Malik (2,263) and Brendon McCullum (2,140) are at third, fourth and fifth place in the list. On the other hand, Bangladesh may have arrived in India without their ace player Shakib al Hasan but superbly ended the jinx against India. Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim’s unbeaten half-century helped them secure their first-ever win against India in T20Is. The Bangla bowlers set up the plot and restricted their mighty neighbours to 148-6 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday. Mushfiqur, dropped in the deep on 38, remained unbeaten on 60 and stitched a crucial partnership with Soumya Sarkar, humbling India by 7 wickets.
